Reasons I don’t get along with most genderqueer folx
BLLLLLAAAAAAARRRRGGGGG!!!! people need to stop saying things like “(insert thing here) isn’t relevant to gender”… EVERYTHING!!!! is relevant to Gender. I get that sometimes theory works better if we think in absolutes and it is a nifty rhetorical tool to say that my gender exist independent of all these things that people want to say defines you/your gender… but doing so dosn’t help anyone…
the reality is that our gender/genders/gender expression is a product of who we are and ‘who we are’ is a product of everything that has ever happened in our lives… if you want to pick and chose what makes you your gender and what dosn’t then you are just one step away from the essentialist that you are trying so hard to critique…
if you are going to make a case for the fluidity of gender you have to accept that there is some reason for that fluidity, and unless you think there is some magic gender fairy in the sky, you kinda have to accept that gender is impacted by the way we experience the world… and if you want to make a case that the way trans and/or genderqueer folx experience the world is not impacted by biology(either through systemic and internalized trans-phobia, gender policing self image, brain chemistry or a billion other things) then you are over simplifying things and preventing the growth of a complex understanding of gender.
